July Newsletter

I hope everyone Stateside had a great 4th of July! We just got back from a weekend away in one of my favorite places in Oregon - Bend. We rented an AirBnB with some friends, cooked delicious food, played games all weekend and floated the river. And no sunburns!

July is a busy month for the Penner household. Brian is in the full swing of ultimate frisbee tournament season. He’s off to Denver this week, then it’s his birthday the next. One of my favorite people in the world, Kelsey, will be in Portland for a WHOLE WEEK! And then just like that it will be August.

For those of you following my dreams, goals, aspirations, ambitions, interests and general life-evolving, I’ve been mentioning coaching the last few months. For those of you who know me well, I’m the kind of person that gets really psyched about something for several moments and then pivots. Well, here’s my pivot. The coaching course I planned to do in the fall may become grad school. There, I said it.

TBD on what/ when/ where/ how/ if, but I like to keep you in the loop on my inner world. Who knows what my update will be next month.

Update on our pup Baci: he’s still cute.

READS, LISTENS & INSPIRATION

Reboot: Leadership and the Art of Growing Up

I heard about the author of this book through a podcast. It was one of those episodes where you resonate with everything that the person is saying. I’m still impressed I managed to wait 4 days before buying it.

One of the start-up world’s most in-demand executive coaches—hailed as the “CEO Whisperer” —reveals why radical self-inquiry is critical to professional success and healthy relationships in all realms of life.

10% Happier #194: Atomic Habits

James Clear talks about forming habits at the “atomic” level. Successful habit building starts with really easy, small changes. As someone interesting in sustainable mircro habits, I was really interested in what he had to say. It was packed full of practical strategies.

Other Inspiration

This recipe for a berry cobbler. It’s a paleo version so it’s basically a healthy dessert. Use it while berries are in season!

This gal is an emcee, coach, runs a yearly “Camp Yes for Women” and is generally an all around badass.

This blog, which is all about leadership, coaching and improving teams (are you sensing a trend in this newsletter?). I’m pretty protective of my inbox in terms of what newsletters I sign up for, and this one made the cut.

This site (you may hear it on podcast ads) where you can sign up for an online on-demand class of any kind. From photography to accounting. I’m taking a watercolor class right now and loving it. Also, if you sign up with the link I provided you get two months FO’ FREE.

PDX Highlight

Kruger’s Farms farm to plate dinners. I mentioned them last August, but now that summer has rolled around, it’s worth mentioning again. Al fresco farm to plate dinners with seasonal deliciousness, yes please. We’re signed up to go to one in a couple weeks!

Quote I’m Loving

“If you’re not also in the arena getting your ass kicked, I’m not interested in your feedback.”
