October Newsletter

Hello lovelies, happy Fall! Or, according to girls, the best season. I can’t believe it’s the time of year where there’s a pumpkin flavored everything. I’m not sure where September went, but that’s partially because I have a new job that’s keeping me busy. I also jetted off to Denver for a friend’s wedding, and to North Carolina to visit my aunt, uncle, and cousins. Our flight to Charlotte was mostly empty because of the impending Hurricane Florence! It was a smooth flight, and just some weekend drizzle where we were at.

In terms of what’s coming down the pipeline for October, I’m in for a rollercoaster. Aside from work busyness, next week I’ll be going on my honeymoon to Italy (yay!), then I’m moving from the burbs to the city. At the beginning of the year I set out to create goals around a particular word every month. September was create. When I chose the goals I had no idea what my year would look like so October’s theme is “slow”…

In an effort to slow down (and also because I’ve been meaning to do this challenge), I’m going to try Project333. I already moved my excess clothes out of my closet and it’s so nice to not be overwhelmed when I go to pick something to wear. Stay tuned for an update, and give it a try yourself if you’re interested :)

And now that you’re caught up with my life, onto the rest of the newsletter!

This podcast appeals to me for a number of reasons. It covers various topics by the host interviewing experts from different fields, such as mindfulness and productivity. It’s based on a parable about the two sides of a person, and how by feeding the “good wolf”, that’s the one that wins.

I just recently listened to episode 244: Chris Bailey on Focus, Productivity and Meditation. I highly recommend!

This book goes against my rule of recommending a book I’ve read, but that’s because I’m still waiting for my turn with the library’s copy! It’s been recommended by a few books I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. With that preface, it’s about examining human behavior:

“The aim of this book is to confront our hidden motives directly - to track down the darker, unexamined corners of our psyches and blast them with floodlights. Then, once everything is clearly visible, we can work to better understand ourselves: Why do we laugh? Why are artists sexy? Why do we brag about travel? Why do we prefer to speak rather than listen?”

This book was recommended by a nutritionist and it tackles the toxic diet culture.

“First published in 1995, Intuitive Eating has become the go-to book on rebuilding a healthy body image and making peace with food. We've all been there―angry with ourselves for overeating, for our lack of willpower, for failing at yet another diet. But the problem is not us; it's that dieting, with its emphasis on rules and regulations, has stopped us from listening to our bodies.”

Health & Beauty Highlight

Recently I’ve been getting into the clean beauty phenomenon and have been adjusting things like skincare, make up, and personal hygiene products. Without getting too deep into this topic (I’ll save it for a blog post), a lot of our everyday products have harsh chemicals, unregulated ingredients like “fragrances”, and unregulated terms like “natural” in them. I want to share a couple products with you here that are good for you, the environment, and are actually affordable!

Acure Skin Care

“We source the highest quality ingredients for your skin. No parabens, sulfates, formaldehyde, paraffin, mineral oil or animal testing allowed!”

Their skincare line is the most affordable organic line I’ve seen. I’ve been using their “Brightening” skincare line.

Native Deodorant

I’ve tried Tom’s, Schmidt, and Native, and this is my favorite. What works for me may not work for you, but they have travel sizes you can try. Note: if you’re going from an anti-perspirant to a deodorant, it takes your body a couple weeks to get used to it, so stick with it.
