Photo by Artur Rutkowski on Unsplash It’s June! It’s berry season here in Portland. Once you’ve had Oregon berries in June, you’re spoiled for life. It’s also the season where tourists come in flocks, see how beautiful the city is, decide to move here, then realize it’s overcast and rainy for 9 months of the year. But for the summer, it’s heaven. This last month I celebrated my one year wedding anniversary with Brian. We went to Walla, Walla, WA (yes, it’s fun to say out loud). It’s a gorgeous wine country city, with rolling hills and blue skies. We spent 5 days unplugging and relaxing and it was a pause that we both needed individually and was a perfect way to celebrate our first year of being hitched. I once again have no new blog posts to share, but lots of things percolating in the background. I like to think that if I didn’t have a day job, this little corner of the internet would look a little different. But I wouldn’t change a thing right now. Doing this whole regular adult job, plus having a social life, being dog mom, pursuing a healthy lifestyle, and having a side hobby project can fill up my whole schedule (in a good way). Sometimes I need to take my own advice and take a step back to give myself some time and space, instead of critiquing everything I haven’t done yet. For a long time, being the Type A, hyper-organized, ambitious and goal-driven person that I am, I have equated success (and worth) based on how many things I checked off of my to do list on any given day. Got it all done? Great day. Got half of it done? Bad day. That doesn’t leave a lot of room for the things that life throws at us. I’m not advocating procrastination — although I’ve heard enough about the benefits of it that it makes sense for some things. I’m advocating boundaries, saying yes to things that are elevating to you, no to things that don’t bring you joy, and letting go of the rest. To put it another way, how can you give your time and energy to friends, family, causes you care about, and your career, if you haven’t taken care of yourself? What fills up your cup? What rejuvenates you? I challenge you to clear some part of your schedule this week to do that thing. In other news, I’m in the process of selecting a COACHING COURSE (woop woop!). I plan to start in the fall and complete it in the spring. Keep an eye out in the coming months, I’ll need some pro bono practice clients ;) Enjoy the sunshine and berries this month! Give yourself permission to say no to things that don’t serve you. Give yourself permission to do something extravagant and luxurious just for you.
