November Newsletter

Every month this year, I’ve had a one word theme that I’ve created goals around for the month. October was “Slow”, which is almost laughable considering the schedule I happened to have. I started the month by flying to San Fransisco for 12 hours for a work conference. Three days later I flew across the world for my honeymoon in Italy. It was a whirlwind of adventure and delicious food. The weekend after we got back, we moved from our suburban apartment to one in the city. And then of course my job keeps me running around and busy during the week!

I was forced to slow down in a couple of ways though, one of them being catching a cold on the flight back home that had me down for a few days. The other was the process of moving into our new place. This is the first time in my life where I haven’t been able to pack up, move, and get all set up in a single weekend. We’re at the stage in life where we’ve accumulated enough “stuff” that it takes a longer to reorganize, and we’re in a place that is much smaller that we’ve had to purge a LOT. I’ve had to be okay with the moving and settling process taking longer than I’m used to.

That being said, the adventure of living in the city is already worth it. We’re each getting an hour and a half back of our weekdays from not having to commute as long. And I have a feeling the living smaller and more simply will fuel some blog posts that I’m excited about. And now onto the rest of the newsletter!

The Good Life Project Podcast

This is a feel good podcast where the host, Jonathan Fields, interviews people across all different industries about how to live a good life. Included in the podcast portfolio is interviews with Elizabeth Gilbert, Brene Brown and Michael Pollan. I just finished episode #476 with Mitch Albom, the author of “The Five People you Meet in Heaven.”

The Defining Decade

This one was recommended by a friend (thanks Maxfield!) and I devoured it in a few days. If you’re in your twenties, it touches on the big pillars in life and why they’re important to start working on them now, rather than later. It will either be very validating, or prompt you to get a couple priorities adjusted. I experienced both while reading it.

Slow: Simple Living for a Frantic World

This was another book I devoured while I was sick. I picked up tips and tricks on how to create space and slow down in life. I am a huge library fan, but I will probably purchase this to be a permanent resident on my bookshelf.

Young Blood Foundation

This is the good stuff (and there’s actually a shade that’s pale enough for me, ha!). It’s paraben free, cruelty free, talc free, and EVEN gluten free. Plus, it’s SPF50. My friend who is a clean beauty esthetician recommended it to me about a year ago and I haven’t used anything since.

PDX Highlight

LeChon Restaurant

On the last Sunday of every month, this restaurant closes down its regular business and sells tickets to a preset 7 course dinner. It’s family style, wine included, and a menu that the chefs are passionate about. We went last week for “International Street Food” and it was so delicious and fun to meet other people. Looks like they’re already sold out for this month!
