Root to Rise
Gifting 20 hours of coaching over 30 days
The story behind this project
Before coaching, I would describe my life as restless. I was in a constant state of doing, always seeking the next thing. Trying to figure life out and be happy. You know, like everyone else?
As a way to figure it out, I tried to do it all. Yes to all extracurriculars, volunteering, and social activities. Yes to new projects, weekend adventures, fun classes. 4 jobs in 4 years post-college.
In short, I was always busy.
For the most part, I reveled in this fast pace. If my calendar and inbox was full, I felt important.
Yet, in moments of anxiety, I would make lists and plans for my life. It was my coping mechanism to “figure it out” and give a sense of certainty and structure to the overwhelm.
I devoured everything I could on well-being, happiness and personal development. My interest in how others find their path in life became a favorite topic of conversation. Perhaps that’s why 4 people in the span of a few weeks told me I would make a good coach.
The problem was, I had no idea what that meant.
I took to the internet and research mode began. I began to form a picture of what a coach was. I stumbled across a local coach, Andrea Leda. She was running her version of this project - The People First Project. I immediately signed up for a gifted session.
Within the first few minutes of my session with Andrea, I was saying things out loud I had never said before. I was being asked questions that opened up parts of myself that I didn’t know existed. I was navigating the areas of my mind that I normally shy away from. I was making connections, seeing patterns, and having a-ha moments all over the place. I felt completely “held”, heard, and like I was flying. I had so much energy.
I signed up for a coach training program 3 days later.
Now, I no longer get into frenzies of list-making and feel a dreaded need to “figure it out”. I am grounded. I am lighter. Not seeking and searching for the answer out there somewhere. Instead, I am living and breathing this work as both a client and a coach. The busyness has changed from frenetic to fulfilling.
I create similarly impactful experiences with my clients and I adore every moment.
As I look to 2020 and what is already shaping up to be a full (and interesting) year, I want to pause and take a moment to say:
Thank you for being here.
For 2020, I am launching something that has been ruminating for a while now. A way to carry forth both two of my values — connection and growth — into my community:
The Root to Rise Project
Between May 10th and June 10th I am gifting 45 hours of coaching. (That's 30 calls that are 90 minutes each).
The Root to Rise Project comes from a place of gratitude for my personal journey and those who helped me along the way. The name is a reminder to myself and those I work with, that in order to forge ahead and rise (meaning something unique for each person), the work starts at the foundation.
This theme pops up everywhere. One of my favorite spaces to receive this reminder is gently and often in a yoga class. Root down through your feet, feel your strength from the ground, stand tall, inhale, grow taller.
So often we think about what the next career move, relationship, or vacation is. The next step up in the game of life according to a set of rules we did not create. We forget to pause and check in with ourselves to inform the next step. We forget how to check in or how to trust ourselves when we do.
We are conditioned to believe that all of life requires that we must seek outside ourselves to fulfill what's inside ourselves — to fix what broke, be healed, find the answer, get better advice, devise a better plan. But this is a poor attempt to replicate the complex dance of our interior. Trusting in this space is what unleashes its potential.
Who is the Root to Rise Project for?
Each of these 90-minute conversations is for...
YOU, if you're struggling with trusting yourself, believing in yourself, or in your dreams or ideas.
YOU, if you feel overwhelmed, too far out there, or exposed and don’t know that you are enough or are doing enough.
YOU, if you often doubt your path, the people on it, and your right to live in joy.
YOU, if you're constantly comparing yourself from where you are to where you want to be.
YOU, if you want to live a life that is meaningful and important to you and know that you didn’t hold back because of fear or by playing small.
